The Manhattan City Commission approved amendments to the city's noise ordinance on Oct. 11, 2016. They are now in effect citywide.
The Noise Ordinance, enforced by the Riley County Police Department, establishes noise violations based on a reasonableness standard where noise can be a violation if it is "endangering or injuring" or "annoying or disturbing" to a reasonable person of ordinary sensibilities. It also defines decibel level limits within residential, commercial and industrial zoning districts within city limits.
