11th & Poyntz Intersection

Due to high wind conditions overnight on March 6, the traffic signal pole and mast arm at the intersection of 11th Street and Poyntz Avenue collapsed. No injuries or damage to private property were reported.

We ask that motorists treat the intersection as a 4-way stop. The remaining traffic lights will flash red, and stop signs have been installed as supplemental information to drivers. We ask that motorists please be aware of pedestrians using the intersection, as this intersection can be busy especially during the evening hours with pedestrians accessing City Park. This temporary traffic control is expected to remain in place for at least three to four weeks.

The intersection is scheduled for complete replacement and new left turn lanes this year. The City was awarded a safety grant from KDOT to construct new left turn lanes on 11th Street. As a part of the project, the design calls for replacement of all the traffic signal poles and new controller equipment. The project schedule has KDOT bidding the project July 15, 2017, and the City Commission taking up consideration of the bids on July 25, 2017.

Thank you for your patience.
