Public Meeting - Park and Recreation Renovation at City Auditorium

Formatted HTML message

City Link InTouch

The City of Manhattan will host a public information and input session on Thursday, July 25, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Commission Room, 1101 Poyntz Avenue, regarding the renovation of the City Auditorium (Peace Memorial Auditorium).

Citizens and interested parties are encouraged to participate in this opportunity to learn more about what the City is currently contemplating and designing as a re-use of the existing auditorium. Preliminary concepts developed to date include the renovation of the seating area to include an upper and lower floor of Park and Recreation offices, and extending the gymnasium floor to the south.

The plaque for Peace Memorial Auditorium dedicates the building to “the memory of our early settlers whose vision, ideals and unity of purpose gave our city its enduring character and to those patriotic citizens who sacrificed their lives so that American democracy might be preserved”. It is important to note that Peace Memorial Auditorium will remain intact and will continue to honor those who settled Manhattan and local Veterans. This renovation offers an opportunity to invest nearly $3 million into the existing facility to preserve and re-program the space to fit the needs of the community and City of Manhattan.
