Rental Registration

Owners
It is the owner's responsibility to complete the registration process. Contact the Risk Reduction
office at 785-587-4506 to create an account.
The owner will be required to provide information including rental unit address, number of dwelling units associated with that address, owner's name and contact information, and certification that information is complete and correct.
If owners do not register their property, the following penalties will apply:
- First conviction within the preceding 12-month period is punishable by a fine of at least $100 but not exceeding $500.
- Second conviction within the preceding 12-month period is punishable by a fine of at least $250 but not exceeding $500.
- Third and subsequent conviction within the preceding 12-month period is punishable by a fine of $500 and possible jail time for not more than 6 months.
Agents
A local agent's purpose is to receive notification of any code or zoning violation notice sent to an owner; serve as a local contact in the case of an emergency; and facilitate contact between the city and the owner.Tenants
No one will be allowed to rent or occupy a rental unit that is not registered.Voluntary Inspections
Inspections are not mandatory and are not addressed as part of the new rental registration program. However, property owners, managers and current tenants may voluntarily schedule property maintenance inspections at no cost. The map shows all currently registered properties with the City of Manhattan through the Residential Rental Registration Program. Currently registered refers to those registration applications that have been reviewed by city staff and have completed the registration process. Registration is required by ordinance in order to rent a dwelling unit.
