Each year, fire hydrants and water main valves are identified for replacement if they are nearing or have exceeded their operational life or are experiencing failure. Public Works and the Manhattan Fire Department also identify areas in the water distribution system where fire hydrants may need to be replaced for improved firefighting capabilities. Additionally, areas in the new Multi-Family Residential Overlay (M-FRO) District have been targeted for installation of new fire hydrants due to the higher density zoning district being implemented east of Kansas State University and Aggieville. Five new hydrants in this area will be installed in 2017. See all project locations associated with this project.
Josh Connet Excavation is the contractor.
Construction cost is $109,900 to be paid from the Water Fund.
Hydrant and valve replacements are anticipated to occur throughout summer 2017.
