In 2015, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) awarded a safety grant to the City for intersection improvements at College Avenue and Claflin Road. The project involves adding a new traffic signal on the south leg of the intersection for the addition of a protected left turn lane.
Phillips Southern Electric Co. is the contractor for the project.
Beginning June 19, College Avenue will be closed south of Claflin for this work. Claflin Road will remain open, but will have lane restrictions.
Construction costs are estimated at $138,376. Construction engineering costs are $62,521. The City's share is $100,897 to be paid from the Surface Transportation Program fund.
