(MANHATTAN, KS – October 15, 2018) The voicemail system at several city offices will be unavailable until the end of 2018. During a recent power outage the city’s phone server failed, knocking out voicemail capabilities for City Hall, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, the Street and Traffic Departments, T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter, Water Treatment Plant, and Wastewater Treatment Plant. The City is currently in the midst of a project to update the entire phone system to VOIP.
Voicemail is still functioning for the Flint Hills Discovery Center, Manhattan Fire Department, Manhattan Regional Airport, and Sunset Zoo.
“The recent power failure damaged the system beyond repair. Since an update to the phone system was already in the works, completing the new installation will be more cost efficient than repairing the old system.” says Information Systems Manager Kirk Meyer.
If the city staff person you are trying to reach is unavailable to answer the phone, please use the staff directory at cityofmhk.com/directory to send an email message instead. . If you are experiencing an emergency, dial 911 for assistance.
