The 1st Infantry Division's 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team began a major combined arms live fire exercise (CALFEX) last week that will continue through late October. Periods of significant noise may be heard and felt throughout the neighboring Flint Hills region during the training.

Community members can expect significant noise during the following date ranges: Sept. 12-13; Sept. 16-21; Sept. 30-Oct. 4; Oct. 7-10; and Oct. 15-18. Those dates are approximate since training needs, operations and weather can shift schedules. Significant training noise may occur throughout the day and night.

Col. Stephen Shrader, Fort Riley Garrison Commander, said, "U.S. Army Soldiers must be prepared to fight in any condition, day or night. In order to do this and maintain proficiency, they must train in as many elements as possible before deploying into harm's way. Fort Riley and the 1st Infantry Division appreciate the sacrifices made by our neighbors as we hone the lethality and readiness of the Big Red One to answer the nation's call at a moments notice."
