(MANHATTAN, Kan. – October 13, 2022) — The City of Manhattan Public Works Department’s Street Division took first place in the Kansas Chapter Snow Roadeo on Sept. 8 at Milford Lake State Park, northwest of Junction City.
Thanks to their state-level win, the snow plow crew of Chad Brewer, Kyle Emig, Ethan Musil, and Darren Williams were able to participate in the 2022 Western Snow and Ice Conference Roadeo on Sept. 28-30 in Loveland, Colorado.
While at the conference, three crew members participated in the National Snow Roadeo Competition. Chad Brewer took 34th place, out of 64, in the loader competition. Kyle Emig and Ethan Musil competed as a team and placed fourth, out of 52, in the single-axle plow competition.
“I’m extremely proud of Chad, Ethan, and Kyle for their effort competing in the National Snow Roadeo,” said Street and Fleet Superintendent Jeff Davis.
“It was an honor to know that we have the capabilities and knowledge to have guys who can challenge other competitors from many different states. Those guys represented the City of Manhattan extremely well on a national level, which is something of which we can all be proud. A big thank-you to Darren for his willingness to attend the conference and gain some knowledge, which he shared with fellow employees and management, on new techniques and equipment used for snow and ice removal.”
The annual Snow and Ice Conference provided expert-led snow and ice education sessions, in which the City’s crew members learned about snow and ice removal techniques to prepare for the 2022-23 winter season. The American Public Works Association (APWA) was host to the event.
